Hmmmm.. Monday.
January 18, 2005 – 12:09 amDid I ever say I hate Mondays, well I do.. Actually today was one of the better ones, pretty reasonable day at work. Managed to get a reasonable amount of stuff done which was cool. There where a couple o bits that pissed me off, one of which is expenses, not been paid some that I put in before christmas for whatever reason dunno why but that ticks me off something rotten..
@stake where ok about expenses after a couple of initial fuckups they did in the end get paided reasonably quickly. PwC where amazing with expenses, they managed to turn them on average around in about 6/7 working days without hassle. So far, first expenses put in for Symantec, well put in before christmas still not paid, enough said..
Well otherwise, tidying up the thing I hate most about consultancy, the documentation, writing the reports and doing all that shit. I suppose once you get into it, it flies by, but what I find the hardest is starting. Once I’m on a roll I’m cool.
Been a ok news day for VDot too, got a couple of stories on today and some good ones over the weekend.
Been revamping the mailing list archive this evening, the job is all about templates and getting them looking just right, which once you’ve got a couple of pages looking how you want them then it is straight forward from there on in. The hard bit is currently grinding away, the archive rebuild, basically vape the old archive and rebuild the entire thing from scratch, not an straight forward task when you’ve got about 270k emails to process. I reckon it will take about 2 or 3 hours if I’m lucky.
Going to have to do the mailing list rebuild twice in the next couple of months, the grand plan for VDot is to move the current site onto two new boxes, well one box I have the dual CPU Alpha with 2Gb of RAM and 2 x 750MHz 8MB Cache Alphas and a new Xeon based Dell server that I intend to get with the December and January google cheques.
There is one thing that the alpha needs is a drive cage, what is in there atm is not exactly suitable for holding more than 2 drives, I need to put at least 5 drives in there, which will be an IDE and 4 SCSI disks… Irritatingly I need the IDE to boot the thing, because oldly, the UP2000+ has an inbuilt Adaptec SCSI interface, but the SRM boot loader cannot boot from a drive on the Adaptec SCSI bus. Mucho strange.. So I have to use this small IDE disk for the boot… Though there is an Adaptec card that could be used that is will boot off, so I may see if I can pick one up on ebay or if anyone has an Adaptec 39160 going spare I could give it a good home..
I’m also for the move going to need a two NICs, one may need to be a gigabyte one, for the direct link to the second box so that the two machines can have a private network for the Database server connections..
