Well found my putty knife today do I did the ‘modification’ to it and opened up the mac mini. It was easy enough to open up, the trick was closing it, there is some EM shielding tabs on the back they you need to careful of when closing the case to ensure that they don’t get caught up.

Well I’ve moved all my tunes off the powerbook and onto the mac mini as it will serve as my tunes box in the office and is good for managing stuff on the ipod.

Was looking at hosting today, need to decide finally on the server configuration for the VDot server move, the main issue is am I going to have the Alpha in the 3U box or have a P4 in a 1U or 2U case. The problem I see with a lot of the 1U stuff is there is limited space for disks, so I cannot setup a RAID 5 set on them to give me some kind of redundancy. A 2U box would allow me to get a setup with at least 3 disks, I’d aim for 4 if possible so I have a swap able spare in the mix. But it looks like it could get expensive for something like that cos with a standard Dell box this ain’t going to happen unless I go for a really expensive box.

So any suggestions for good cheap 2U servers are welcomed.
