Damn Slow
March 22, 2005 – 12:33 amThis last couple of weeks have been really crappy for interesting news stuff, there was all the hype about the foiled bank thingy, but get a grip it was foiled last October, it really isn’t that newsworthy. Hell most banks foil this shit daily with the stuff they’ve spent thousands on to secure their networks. It alas isn’t that newsworthy. There is little else to be honest that is news this month.. Hopefully next month will be better.
Well the plans for the server move got scuppered earlier in the month so I have to wait a little while, in the mean time I’m perfecting the Virus.Org virus scanning service, it is Perl powered and is working pretty good atm, minus a few niggles. It is currently setup to use 6 virus scanners with a potential 3 more to add when I can get eval licenses of them for the initial setup and testing.
Then I need to bolt on some reporting, I’ve got a couple of ideas but I need to really think about what exactly I want and the user would find useful as some stats from the system. There are some things I need to work on too, before I go live with it, but the easter weekend will give me some time to do this.
I need a tool that can detect the packing type for packed executables, that is either in source form and I can build on Linux or comes as a Linux binary. Alas ‘file’ doesn’t cut the mustard, I’ve seen a couple of ‘Windows’ ones but they are all gui and pretty useless for me as a result.
Work wise busy, busy, off travelling again next week, this time to the Netherlands and sunny Eindhoven. Should be ok, looks like an interesting job once I get into it..
