Cricket..
August 14, 2005 – 2:09 pmSo day 4 of the cricket, England are firmly on top, currently got more than a 200 run lead and we seem to be doing well. Have to say that Shane Warne did really well with the bat today, tho he probably got a bit of a blood rush at 90 trying to get his first ever one hundred. Should go to the final day to see who wins, and with luck it will go to close of play tomorrow if we can get a good score today.
Now for a long time I’ve wondered what the number mean until the England logo on the players kit, I’ve managed to find that out today. Basically every England player who has played a test or a ODI is assigned a number on their first cap, so for test players Michael Vaughan got the number 600 when he made his first cap, then when he got his first ODI cap he got the number 161.
I found these two handy lists this one is the Test numbers and this one is the ODI numbers. The first ever number was assigned to T Armitage when he played Australia at the MCG on 15 Mar 1877 for Test players. Now for ODI the first ever number was assigned to Geoffrey Boycott when England played Australia in Melbourne on 05 Jan 1971.
