New Phone

September 3, 2005 – 11:51 am

This weeks new toy, the Nokia 6680 I got to replace the now aging P900 phone.

If realised that for the last two years my old Singlepoint phone plan was paying for my next phone. So I got myself a Nokia 6680 for nowt. I’ve been waiting for the P9xx replacement from Sony Ericsson for ages and yet nothing, so I caved and got the Nokia with Vodafone 3G.

Once I’d got past the little quirks of the Nokia UI on Symbian, got it sync’d to the Mac so I had my Calendar and phone book Got past the sucky Vodafone Live settings, their default Internet settings leave a lot to be desired.

Got Opera for Series 60 installed, Putty and a nice app to auto keylock the screen as this seems to be a feature lacking on a default Series 60 install. However I’m mighty impressed, firstly it supports IMAP-SSL for the email client, it is the first phone I’ve had that I can actually use with my VDot email accounts.

Not to sure on the battery life, I’ve been doing some heavy use above my normal so I’m not getting a proper picture of how long it will last.
