The goose got fat and died….

Well Christmas has been and gone for another year. Just like previous years I have a doing stuff spurt. This year so far I’ve switched from Jive Messenger Jabber server running on VDot to ejabberd. Had to build a custom package for it to run on debian, as the current debian release is out of date. It seems so far better than the previous jabber server, less memory hungry, Jive Messenger although it was well featured, had a very good management UI was a Java application and I found that after a period of running it, well it ate memory, loads of it.. Had over huge number of java processes running all with 80Mb of ram attached..

So today I moved it over to ejabberd, ported over the previous users of the server and set everything back up.

The other job was the upgrade of the Exim on the mail server to the latest release, running a custom built version of Exim. The Debian maintainers of Exim refused to build it withou SPF, SRS and DomainKeys support, I wanted to have this and remove some of the database support I do not use. So I did. I’ve now got Exim setup doing SPF checks for all incoming mail and verifying DomainKey signatures for emails sent with them.

I’ve also setup the server to ’sign’ using the DomainKeys system all outbound mail for the Virus.Org and Codepope.Org domains. At the same time I’ve moved all DNS for those domains to DynDNS as the previously supplied DNS hosting from Register.Com and Mydomain.com don’t support the level of control I want for those domains.

I was considering setting those domains to my own DNS server but I’d for the moment prefer to let someone else have that headache.

Didn’t get that much for Christmas tho this year, pretty much the usual. But there is only one thing I really wanted and that was a Chair, but as I’m at my parents getting this given to me is kinda difficult as I’d have to get it home on the train. So that will probably get ordered and delivered to home after I return on Thursday.

I picked up for my mum a continuous inking system for her epson printer, I installed it yesterday and it is driving my nuts. Somehow air leaked into the cartridges and it is not printing properly and I cannot evacuate the air from the cartridges. I’m going to have to investigate this problem further.
