New Scanner and Apache Fix

October 23, 2006 – 3:28 pm

Well added a new virus scanner over the weekend and sorted some fixes eventually.

The Apache Fix that was causing the 100% CPU was down to two different versions of the same Apache2::Request module. Which when the module cache was reloaded would pull in a buggy version from the perl include path.

Added the virus scanner QuickHeal which hails from India provided by the guys at CAT Computer Services.

Also looking at adding the TrendMicro Scanner, but at the moment it looks difficult using their software due to their numerous dependencies and lack of viable command line scanner, however with just the scan engine and signatures I believe it maybe possible to use Trophie.

Another I wanted to add was F-Secure, but my tests over the weekend with evals of their Linux Client and Server Security products failed horribly. They both do not like the hardened kernel environment, plus they both have insane requirements such as java and running like 10 services just so you can run a command line scanner and the update process is ‘clunky’ to say the least.

The one I really want to add is Kaspersky, but I cannot for the life of me find a place I can purchase a single user license for their Linux Workstation Product.
